How to Prevent Frizz and Care for your Curly Hair

by Angela lagrimas

Having curly hair means you have a plethora of options when it comes to styling your hair, which is great! However, as a curly girl, your hair is more than likely probably prone to drying out and getting frizzy as well- which can make for some not-so-fun momentsin your curly hair chronicles.

Especially with coarse and/or wavy and curly hair, it's essential to have a routine for your hair type that will work to prevent damage, tone down frizz, moisturize your hair and promote growth and regrowth. Follow the below tips often to keep your curly locks at optimum performance and looking their best.

Prevent Dryness.

Because curly hair can dry out easily, it's important to hydrate your hair properly-and regularly. Once a week,  you should be using an intense deep conditioner to hydrate the hair from root to tip. Try DevaCurl Heaven in Hair Intense Moisture Treatment, which provides moisture, protection and all day shine. It is effective on all grades of wavy and curly hair. In between washing your hair, you should be conditioning it regularly with either a leave-in conditioner or a daily one. Try out .

DevaCurl Buildup Buster is a gem for removing product build up in between shampooing your hair. And when cleansing your hair, try their No-Poo Decadence Zero Lather Ultra Moisturizing Milk Cleanser. It's later-free and infused with rich, hydrating elements like quinoa and chufa milk, which offers a luxurious cleansing experience while leaving hair soft, moisturized and smelling amazing.

Prevent Damage.

Besides hydrating your hair- which will help prevent over drying that can lead to breakage- it is imperative to keep your split ends to a minimum by getting regular trims. Every 6-8 weeks is ideal to get those split ends clipped to keep your hair at optimum health. If you treat your hair chemically or it is colored, you may want to aim for trims more often- every 4-6 weeks.

Avoid using heat on your hair regulary- which will overdry the hair, leading to split ends. When using heat, be sure to treat the hair before, during and after to protect the hair from the heat being directly on your hair.

Lastly, make sure to detangle your hair daily to prevent unnecessary breakage. Remember to dampen hair, part into sections and use a detangler, if necessary to fully hydrate and soften your curls so that they can be combed through easily. Never detangle hair while it's dry.

Seal Hair Cuticles to Prevent Frizz.

One of the biggest complaints in curly hair is unmanageable frizz. Especially when heat and humidity are involved, curly hair can grow to twice- and three and four times- its normal volume and become difficult to control. Frizz is caused when the follicle of the hair is very dry and separates, causing the hair to stick up in different directions. Always avoid rubbing a towel on your hair after washing, which will cause frizz and possible damage. Instead, ring out excess moisture and let the hair dry naturally, or with the cool or low setting of a blow dryer.

To prevent frizz overall, it is essential to have each strand of hair fully moisturized, without adding heaviness.  A great product to seal moisture in the body of the hair is Mirror Curls Ultimate Shine Serum. It can be used to tame frizz with regular styling and also to prevent frizz after heat styling. Just a small amount is needed to add essential shine and smoothness.
