5 Essential Shower Beauty Tips

by Corinne Shoemaker

Having a great beauty routine is all about developing the right habits. Read on to learn five essential shower habits that will leave your skin and hair in optimal health.

1. Start with your hair.

How often you shampoo doesn’t just depend on your hair type, but also the quality of your products. The higher the quality, the more you should be using them. Despite what you may have heard, daily ‘pooing is actually good for your hair with the right formula. We recommend Pureology’s Strength Cure Shampoo. Remember to get the back of the neck, as this is where most of your hair’s oil collects.

Another important note: when you wash and condition your hair, the pore-clogging products you use will naturally travel down your skin to other parts of your body. This is why you should always wash your body last – otherwise, you could wind up with product residue on your skin (if you suffer from acne, you can see why this might be a problem).

2. Regularly replace your razors.

Cuts and ingrown hairs are the result of using dull blades. To avoid this, just replace your razor after every five or six uses. Be sure to store it someplace dry to keep it from rusting (so, not your shower)! Exfoliation is also good for keeping ingrown hairs at bay. Just don’t do it more than once a week or you risk irritating your skin.

3. Avoid using very hot water.

Using excessively hot water is a bad idea as it strips away skin’s protective oils, drying it out and potentially leaving it tight and itchy. Hot water is bad for hair for the same reason. Stick to a lukewarm temperature.

4. Don’t use harsh cleansers.

Again, this can dry out your skin and lead to all kinds of problems. Pick formulas with gentle, hydrating ingredients like Milk Shake Argan Body Wash. Infused with organic argan oil, this product leaves skin silky and soft while preserving its natural pH. The same goes for your hair products. Avoid drying and damaging ingredients like sulphates.

5. Have a weekly routine.

In addition to daily shampooing and conditioning, you should be have a deep-cleansing and hydration ‘sesh every week. Product builds on hair overtime, dulling the strands and causing application to be less effective. Use a purifying shampoo like Sudzz FX’s Nyrvana Purifyng Shampoo to correct this. Of course, with hot tools and certain environmental conditions, you have to be careful not to let your strands dry out. That’s where deep conditioning comes in. Try Snobgirls Bodydense Masque Cream Conditioner.
