10 Things Your Hairstylist Really Wishes You Would Stop Doing

Your hairstylist wants your strands to look their best, but there's only so much he or she can do -- you need to develop the right habits so that you can keep your hair healthy and fab for weeks after your visit to the salon. Read on to learn ten things every hairstylist really wishes you would stop doing to your hair.


1. Sleeping in a ponytail or a bun.


Sleeping with your hair pulled tightly back, especially with an elastic, causes breakage. If you just can’t stand sleeping with your hair down, it’s a much better idea to sleep in a loose braid.


2. Over-washing your hair.

3. Brushing wet hair.


Your strands are most vulnerable to breakage when wet, so you need to be careful with them. This means that you don’t rake a brush through them! A wide-tooth comb is much more gentle. Of course, how you brush your hair is equally important. Which leads us to our next problem…


4. Brushing hair from the top down.


Whether wet or dry, you should always brush your hair starting at the ends and work your way up. Going the opposite way will result in more tangles, split ends, and broken strands.

8. Using rubber bands.

9. Using hot tools on wet hair.
