The Special Ingredient You Must Have in Your Shampoo

by Corinne Shoemaker

No matter what your beauty routine may entail, chances are great that you regularly grab for shampoo and conditioner. This means that by using the right ingredients, you can maximize the benefits of scrubbing your locks. On the flip side, using the wrong ingredients can mean weak, damaged strands. Luckily, you have us here to help you!

There is one ingredient in particular that is found in some shampoos and conditioners which studies have shown to produce shinier, more durable locks. What’s the magic ingredient? Chelants. Basically, they eliminate heavy metals commonly found in strands to protect them from splitting, breaking, or losing their luster when exposed to sunlight.

Disodium EDTA, tetrasodium EDTA, and sodium citrate are some of the more commonly used chelants, so look for them in the “Ingredients” section the next time you’re treating yourself to a new bottle of ‘poo. Here are some of our favorites…

Kenra's Clarifying Shampoo: restores hair's natural radiance and shine. Extracts of grapefruit and witch hazel along with amino acid chelators eliminate dulling deposits and buildup.

Sudzz FX's Nyrvana Purifying Shampoo: eliminates product and environmental build-up without drying out your locks (and it’s color safe!)

Sudzz FX's Cashmere Hydrating Shampoo: delivers a strong dose of moisture while creating shine, silkiness and manageability. It’s richly hydrating and perfect for hair that tends to be dry.

Sudzz FX's ColourFix Leave-In Conditioneris an ultra-light formula rich in FXulites® that helps restore hair and defends against daily environmental stresses.
