5 Crazy Lies About Hair Care

by Corinne Shoemaker

You want your hair to look its best, so you’re bound to do some weird things if you think it will help. Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths surrounding hair care – some of which may be standing in the way of you and the fabulous tresses you yearn for. We’re here to help clear everything up!

  1. You should shampoo daily

Cleanliness is important, but when it comes to your hair, washing every day isn’t a necessity. In fact, it’s bad for your hair’s health. Over-washing strips the strands of their natural oils and proteins, leaving you with a dry, frizzy mane. To avoid this, limit shampooing to two or three times per week.

  1. You should only rinse with cold water

Want shinier hair? Don’t believe anyone who tells you that cold water will do the trick. A lot of people seem to think that the cool temperature will close their hair cuticles, making their strands shinier. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way – but that doesn’t mean you have to go to great lengths for the desired effect! If your hair is looking dull, product buildup may to be blame; try a clarifying shampoo or (if that doesn’t work) a serum, like Snobgirls Hydramend Prestocure Serum Capsules which is built to repair and protect your locks while giving them a silky finish.

  1. For healthy hair, brush 100 strokes per day

Over-brushing your hair will lead to split ends and breakage, making this myth bad news for your ‘do! On the other hand, brushing helps to disperse oils from your scalp and eliminate the buildup of waste. You don’t want to dump your brush, but you should limit how much you use it.

  1. Rinsing with beer strengthens your hair

Here’s a weird one: some people believe that the yeast and protein found in beer can strengthen your hair, so they use it as a rinse. Unfortunately, this effect is canceled out by the alcohol which will only dry out your hair. Don’t do it! If you want stronger strands, make sure you are eating healthy foods and that you limit the chemicals you put in your hair. Go with a natural shampoo that contains protein, such as Sudzz FX’s Cashmere Hydrating Shampoo.

  1. Your hair will build an immunity to your products

When your favorite hair products seem to be losing their effect, this is likely a cause of product and environmental buildup (such as dirt and pollution). Certain products become unable to penetrate the buildup and get to your hair, causing your strands to become dull. To remedy this, just use a clarifying shampoo once a week, such as Kenra's Professional Clarifying Shampoo (it’s gentle and color-safe)!
